The management of PT Es Teh Indonesia Makmur (Es Teh), sent a subpoena to one of its customers. This subpoena was made in the aftermath of a protest by a customer named Gandhi on his Twitter account @Gandhoyy who called the Ice Tea drink too sweet.
Brian Michael as the legal team of Es Teh said that in principle the company always opens the door to criticism and suggestions from its consumers.
However, the company objected to Gandhi's post regarding the subjective statement of sweetness in products. In addition, Es Teh has also provided other options according to consumer needs.
"So it is inappropriate to state that Chizu Red Velvet products (drinks) such as sugar weighing 3 kg. We consider that statement can lead to providing false and/or misleading information to consumers/public," said Brian, in his statement, Sunday (25/9). .
Not only that, at the point of the subpoena, what burdens the management of Es Teh is the presence of animal words and other unkind words directed at the company as the brand owner and creator of the product.
On that basis, Es Teh made a subpoena and asked Gandhi to delete his post and release a clarifying statement. Based on Katadata.co.id's observation, the hashtags #Es Teh and #Somasi remain a hot topic of discussion on Twitter.

"We hereby warn and strongly rebuke you (submission) to immediately delete and clarify statements (tweets) on your personal twitter account, no later than 2x24 hours from the date of this letter," said Es Teh's management.
After receiving the summons, Gandhi via Twitter later apologized and deleted his post regarding criticism of the Iced Tea drink and said he had made a tweet that defamed the company led by Nagita Slavina.
"I myself want to apologize to PT. ES Teh Indonesia Makmur because I have made a tweet that has been widely discussed by the public related to one of its products, namely 'Chizu Red Velvet," Gandhi wrote, Sunday (25/9).
"I have an opinion and at the same time vilify the name of the product, providing wrong information, its contents, and the name of the company. Once again I apologize for the tweet I made for defaming the good name of PT ES Teh Indonesia Makmur," he said.
