Choi Pan Recipe, Vegetable Stuffed Cake with Soft Skin

Choipan is a vegetable filled cake that is quite popular in Pontianak. You can make this snack using stuffing from yam, bamboo shoots, ebi, and shrimp.


In choipan is also equipped with a way to make a thin and soft choipan skin. As for the ingredients for choipan skin, among them are rice flour, corn flour, and water.

Choipan recipe

  • 180 grams of rice flour
  • 25 grams of cornstarch or starch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 450 ml water
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil

Material contents

  • 200 grams of yam, cut into matchsticks, squeeze the water
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 50 grams of ebi, brewed, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garlic Sauce

  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 50 ml cooking oil

Chili sauce

  • 50 grams of red chili, seeds removed, boiled, puree
  • 250 ml air
  • 25 grams of sugar
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cloves of garlic, puree

How to make choipan

  1. Filling : Heat cooking oil, saute garlic until fragrant. Add all ingredients, cook until cooked through, lift.
  2. Skin : Mix all ingredients for the skin together, stir over low heat until it becomes a dough that can be formed.
  3. When the dough is still sticky, add a little starch.
  4. Take enough skin dough, fill with shrimp mixture. Shapes like pastels. Do the same thing until the dough runs out.
  5. Steam the choipan over high heat for 15 minutes or until cooked through. Lift and serve while still hot with the sauce.
  6. Chili sauce : Mix all ingredients until smooth.
