The increase in the price of shallots in the market has also been enjoyed by farmers in Temanggung Regency , Central Java. They make a profit, because of the high selling price in the market today.
"The price of shallots at the farmer level, or onions that have just been harvested, costs Rp. 27,000 to Rp. 28,000 thousand per kilo, then at the market, onions that are ready to be consumed reach Rp. 60,000 thousand per kilo," said the Head of the Food Security Service, Agriculture and Fisheries (DKPPP) Temanggung Regency, Joko Budi Nuryanto, quoted from the official website of the Temanggung Regency Government, Thursday (21/7/2022).
He said that the increase in the price of shallots in the market was triggered by the reduced supply from farmers, because this year's harvest was reduced due to the influence of the weather.
"Because the season and the weather are not supportive, the shallot harvest is reduced, it greatly affects the increase in the price of shallots in the market, and if in Temanggung the shallot farmers have harvested before the Eid al-Fitr yesterday," he added.
On the other hand, in an effort to meet the needs of the community and also stabilize prices in the market, the Temanggung Cooperatives, Small, Medium Enterprises and Trade Office (Dinkopdag) has deployed officers to monitor prices in the market.
"Every day there are officers who carry out price monitoring in the market, both the need and the availability of shallots," said Head of the Dinkopdag, Entargo Yutri Wardono.
In fact, if the market price continues to soar and the availability of goods decreases, his party has coordinated with the Industry and Trade Office of Central Java Province, as well as the onion traders association to meet the needs of the community.
"We'll see, if the surplus we do self-balancing, if it's minus we ask the province and the onion traders association to meet the needs of the community," he said.
Dinkopdag appealed to the people of Temanggung not to panic buying red onions in large or excessive quantities.
"We appeal to the public not to panic in buying shallots, not to buy in large quantities or excessively," he said.
