Mulan Jameela Criticizes Induction Cooker: Not Suitable for Indonesian Cuisine!

Mulan Jameela asked the government to study the conversion of LPG stoves to induction stoves more deeply. The member of Commission VII stated that induction stoves are not necessarily suitable for use in Indonesia.

Mulan Jameela Kritik Kompor Induksi: Nggak Cocok buat Masakan Indonesia!

According to his experience, induction cookers are not suitable for cooking local Indonesian dishes. In fact, Mulan admits that at her house she already has an electric stove, but she still uses a gas stove. The reason, according to him, is more suitable for cooking using a gas stove.

"I'll be honest, yes, my capacity as a member of the council and as a mother. We just have an electric stove at home, but we can't get rid of the gas one, because Indonesian cuisine is different, not Caucasians whose pans are the same size," he said. Mulan in a working meeting of Commission VII with the Directorate General of ILMATE of the Ministry of Industry, Wednesday (21/9/2022).

Therefore, he asked that the induction cooker conversion program should not be carried out in a hurry. Don't let programs with good intentions to suppress LPG imports create new problems.

Mulan also highlighted the issue of electricity to be used, she was worried that the use of electric stoves would make the public's electricity bill explode.

"People who lack electrical power are 450 VA, this needs 1,200-1,800 watts, that's huge," said Mulan.

Furthermore, this program is planned to be carried out on a national scale, even though according to him there are still many areas whose electricity is not yet connected. There are also areas where electricity is byarpet.

He claimed to have a house in Cisarua, where the electricity supply was unstable. When he tried to use an induction cooker, he said it wasn't even strong. Due to unstable electricity, finally the induction cooker was damaged.

"So I also have this experience. I have a house in Cisarua. I have an electric stove there, because the electricity is not stable like in the city the stove is broken. In fact, I can't do anything about it just because the electricity is unstable," said Mulan.

Another problem that can arise is the high price of induction cookers. Despite the discourse that the government wants to provide a set of stoves for free, Mulan is still worried that people will find it difficult to buy expensive frying pans and pots.

"Earlier, it was said that this induction cooker costs Rp. 1.5 million. Okay, it's free. Does it include pans and pans? Are they available in various sizes? Not to mention the problem is that the pans and pans are expensive," said Mulan.

Mulan suggested that the conversion of the induction cooker should not be directed at the poor as planned by the government. The good thing is, the conversion of induction cookers is directed in the midst of people who can afford it.

"For example, this induction cooker is mandatory for people who can afford it, maybe they can. They really need it. So they are not people who lack, because they are also not capable of electrical power," said Mulan.

Previously, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rida Mulyana, explained that the distribution of induction cookers would be made to families who received the electric stove packages registered in the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS). The plan will be given in stages this year.

The induction cooker package consists of one stove, one cooking utensil, and one Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) or a special power line for induction cookers for free.

"The plan this year is 300 thousand (recipients). So one house is given one package, its own stove, its own cooking utensils, its power is increased," he said when met at the DPR RI Building, Tuesday (20/9/2022).
