Equally Black Coffee, What's the Difference Between Americano and Long Black?
Americano and long black are both popular types of black coffee . Both are easy to find in many international chain coffee shops.
Both have the same coffee color, and a similar consistency. So no wonder, americano and long black are often misunderstood as the same drink.
In fact, according to Faisal Gofur, F&B consultant and barista at Kasima restaurant, the two are different drinks.
"Actually americano and long black are the same type but have different names. The naming has an identity in it, so it's different," said Faisal.
Faisal explained, the name long black is widely used in Australia, while americano is widely used in America and Japan.
Long blacks commonly used in Australia generally use lungo , coffee that has been extracted for a long time.
" Americo usually uses espresso . So there's more quantity of water. In my opinion, the taste is a bit flat ," said Faisal.
Meanwhile long black , according to Faisal, has its own taste. The black coffee tastes more intense.
"Because the long espresso ( lungo ), it has flavor ," said Faisal when met by The Newbie Food in Kasima, Tuesday (31/5/2022).
Furthermore, Faisal said, although these two types of coffee are popular now, long black appeared first compared to americano .
This is because the history of the emergence of americano , which most likely, began when Americans came to Italy.
" Hosterically , Americans come to Italy, they can't drink espresso, they want to increase the water content, so Americano ," said Faisal.
